In my last post I made a statement saying that my relationship with Breakbeats was completely over. Well, like any breakup (no pun intended) – making the transition from a committed relationship to regaining your individuality and independence can be really hard. You may find yourself going back to the one that hurt you for comfort in a time of need, or perhaps they have something new to offer you. Exes are also great for hooking up with every now and then. Just plug in and play! It is often wise to make nice with exes and maintain a level of friendship because you never really know where life will take you. Having them around might come in handy and besides, you never really stop paying attention to them, secretly checking up on them online, seeing what they’re up to. Just three days ago I found myself scanning new releases in the Breaks section on Beatport.com. If it really truly was completely over, why was I there?

I realized yesterday, that even though I am really pissed off at Breakbeats, if I was asked to play at a party or event with the prerequisite that I play Breaks, I would still do it. I would make amends with my ex-lover and it would be magnificent.

So as for my relationship status with Breaks, let’s just say we’re friends with benefits at this point.

I know it has been awhile since I’ve updated my blog/podcast. It’s not that I’m lazy or not motivated to do it, I’ve just felt that some of my recent shows have been, umm what’s the word… Meh. As some of you know, I’ve been doing some soul searching with music. These days, there’s no genre I won’t listen to. Well, except for Breaks. For the most part, I have not listened to or played breaks since the death of my previous show: Chump N Hounds. I don’t know why, but I just can’t stand it anymore. I’m trying out a lot of new sounds lately. I’ll play whatever I think sounds good. Deep House, NuDisco, Tech House, Trap, Moombahton, Bass House, Jackline, Dutch House, Glitch Hop, Chillstep, UK Bassline, 2step, Chillout… I’ve even been playing around with Club House a bit. Whatever, just as long as it sounds good, that’s all I care about. As always I’m a sucker for wicked remixes/bootlegs/edits of well known mainstream tunes. I’ve been scouring the internet for the best releases and remixes out there and I’m considering posting a monthly round up of my favorites. We’ll see how it goes. Here is what I’ve come to realize:

My relationship with Breaks is completely over.
Electronic music producers are now giving birth to some of the most creative and amazing sounds the world has ever heard.
With so many options available and new styles begin born at alarming rates, it is likely that many of these sounds will be nothing more than a passing fad.

I’m undecided as to whether I’m ready to go steady with another music genre. I’m not sure where I should go from here, but I’m definitely experimenting.
